Dissidia: Bootleg vs Authentic
Yes, folks. You've heard it right. Those sharply-detailed, well-loved and equally-steep Dissidia Final Fantasy Trading Arts volume one had been bastardized by some Evil bay sellers already.
Here, I've prepared a short article on how to differentiate Dissidia bootlegs from authentics.
I'll be using my own pics for the Dissidia authentics. I do not have Cloud so anyone with the Cloud Dissidia Trading Arts please take a hi-res front and back pic. You'll be credited accordingly.
As for the bootlegs, I'll be using the pics of this fraudlent e-bay seller that had even confidently watermarked his own bullcrap.
Right. Let's begin!
AUTHENTICS
BOOTLEG
There are two versions of the Warrior of Light Bootleg that exists: With the bent horns and with no horns (the one below).
Front
Blue Ring - Noticeably lack of horns.
Green Ring - Shows the lack of metallic paint job in the spikes of the gauntlet and black undershirt.
Red Ring - Cracks in the paint job and the small beads in the area are not painted.
Back
Red Ring - WTF happened to his mop-like silver locks?! It looks like dripping cement!
Blue Ring - Cracks in the paint job
AUTHENTICS
Pics borrowed from Ami Ami Shop.
Click here for more photos of the awesome real deal.
BOOTLEG
I must say the bootleg is well done and scanning it for tell-tale signs of bootlegs is like playing "Spot the Difference" in a local newspaper or wheresoever. But of course, a keen eye will be able to tell apart the differences that...
Red Ring - That area should be lighter red and silver in color to be distinctive from the color of the blade.
Green Ring - Hair is painted in darker hues, scintillating to orange in color like the sleeves on Tidus' torn shirt.
Purple Ring - Face looks like a retard. I mean, if it's Cloud, he looks emo but not to the point of looking so retarded like that.
Blue Ring - LOL Steroids? Exaggerated amount of detail reveals that the figure has darker skin.
Yellow Ring - The authentic reveals that Cloud is wearing three to four iron rings in each finger whereas the bootleg shows he's wearing only one for each finger.
BOOTLEG
Front
Blue Ring - Face looks like a retarded emo kid. The hair is also darker in color.
Red Ring - The belt buckle (lion) looks retarded too.
Green Ring - Paint bleeds
Yellow Ring - Somewhat metallic finish or it's over shiny.
Back
Green Ring - Excess plastic (flashes).
Yellow Ring - Griever Keychain in the Gunblade shows bland detailing/sculpt
BOOTLEG
Front
Red Ring - Cracks in the paint job.
Blue Ring - Lacks proper shading in his brown belts.
Purple Ring - The beads in his tie are supposed to be green NOT blue.
Orange Ring - Looks like shit really. His sword's handle is definitely not in that color and that there's an excess metallic green paint on his hand.
Yellow Ring - That area is supposed to be lighter in color and is supposed to be gray.
Green Ring - Lack of black outlines and gray shading.
Back
Green Ring - Poorly-shaded area.
Blue Ring - Cracks on the paint job.
BOOTLEG
Front
Blue Ring - The sword may be permanently attached that way and it looks like bullcrap.
Green Ring - It looks darker like a Honeycomb, readily to be attack by bootleg-hating bees and that there's excess paint going all the way to his arm.
Purple Ring - It's supposed to be an orange to yellow gradient...not plain yellow.
Red Ring - Bland details and wrong paint color applied.
Yellow Ring - Lacks the small red bead that decorates his V-shaped white collar.
Back
Yellow Ring - The Metal shoulder bracer of shorts has paint cracks. The silver coating on the "studs" are cracking off and the yellow under layer is shown.
Blue Ring - Painted just plain black whereas its supposed to be black to dark gray.
Green Ring - Supposed to be yellow to orange to red gradient.
Purple Ring - Absolutely incorrect paint job. The string is supposed to have Orange to dark orange gradient.
Red Ring - The silver zipper of his messenger bag of sorts is not painted on.
That ends the short article about the Dissidia Bootlegs.
Do watch out for this Lam Lam guy but we also have to admire his drop of honesty for posting actual pics of the actual products.

Tsuki-board's new entry field and why collect Play Arts
Tsuki-board has a new entry field called "Run," but before I comment on it;
I'd like to state my reasons why Play Arts Action Figures are ideal to collect.
Because they come in the same size as Yamato VMF's, CM Corp's Nanohas or Liquidstone's Resin loli's for definitely less than half the price?
Above average paint job, fantastic detailing and jaw-dropping weapons.
Not just those reasons above.
Did you noticed that since 2003, the debut of the Play Arts Action Figures; there's extremely little to negligible amount of exclusives as opposed to competing companies' subsequent competing innovative joints with like three exclusive figures every year?
Those exclusives...darned exclusives...they are the reason why I do not went serious with the Nendoroids, Figma and Revoltechs. But I'm not saying that you shouldn't collect them nor its bad to do so. In fact, its good because you get the assortment of many popular characters across franchises and unimaginable such as a brokeback pr0n star. However, you would also have to accept the fact that the exclusives keep on popping out right after you just got that exclusive that you've long been wanting. (so yeah, please understand the Despaired individual here ^^; )
As for me I became contented with...
~ Male Nendoroids that are thank god not Limited Edition. Neuro, Kaito, Sebastian, Leonardo-hakase, Nozomu but...sorry Light and L, you two aren't invited. ^^;
~ Harassing Mikuru (Otakai peeps attest to the ecchi abuses that I do to Mikuru which makes me more of a monster than Haruhi) and the thought of completing the SOS-Dan with Kyon being the only potential spaz. I'll also be getting Drossel von Flugel of Fireball though because I love the darn Fireball show to bits. XDDD I want Gedatchinis too! >_<;
~ Complete normal run of the Yotsuba crew and Dante. LOL. Is Danboard trying to complete against Sora with the number of forms...or was it Fuka Ayase? LOL LOL LOL!!!
Dante is my most favorite Revoltech since 2005 and its also the first-run Dante Revoltech that I obtained on Revo's debut month of April 2005. It's certainly not the 2008 reissue. ^^;
Now you see? With size, price, detail, exclusives-no-no's...Play Arts will live on!
Since 2003 and going stronger! XD
Although the devil that is Square-Enix might release exclusives in the future, which is highly unlikely, keep your friends close...but your enemy that is S-E Japanese marketing managers closer.
Okay, having said my reason why Play Arts are ideal to collect; let me have a look on the new entry field of Tsuki-board called "Run."
Run means the release type of the particular figure being added in the database.
--- WARNING: While I do applaud Tsuki-board for the new addition to the entry fields; my comments below would contain satirical remarks towards Japanese companies and their spazzy toys. --
ONE.
Standard:
Normal releases with like about a million or hundreds of thousand pieces produced for that particular toy. Not containing marketing gimmicks like exclusives, etc. In other words, not too hard to obtain and could likely be found in Brick and Mortar stores or Online ones.
However, in due time; those trinkets would become Evil Bay feeders like the Final Fantasy X-2 Play Arts.
Notable example/s: All Play Arts Action Figures with but few spazzy exceptions.
TWO.
Prize:
Prize as in contest rewards, not SEGA UFO catchers, as clarified to me by Kuma-san.
These are like ten or less existing in the world and a good amount of effort is required to get one. But of course, we must also understand that such contests are only aimed towards Japanese residents and that we foreign collectors must do something else to get it like customizing. Yes, some prize items may be too easy to customize with the regular runs. To some connoiseurs, however, the joy of having a Prize item through a sweet victory still has all of the bragging rights intact.
Oh well.
Notable example/s: Max Watanabe Figma (aka: Figmax), the figure with the best manboobs in the world! XDDDD
THREE.
Limited:
Limited releases with only tens of thousands or less produced.
Notable example/s: Sora Final, Wisdom and Master Form Play Arts Action Figure
FOUR.
- An Excerpt from the Creed of Japanese Toy Companies
Exclusives:
Exclusive figures through mail-in, event, website, whatever damn gimmick it is but still not limited as they indeed manufactured enough units for it not to count as limited but still spazzy as the items themselves may not be limited but the stores that carry them are like just one or two...you can count with the fingers in your hands.
Bundled figures such as the Nendoroids and Figmas that count with video games are also in the mix of Exclusives.
Notable example/s:
Sora Limit Form and Play Arts Arms Sets
Saber Lily in the Fate / Unlimited Codes Special Box
FIVE.
Tifa: Just what are you looking for anyway?
Cloud: Tifa Lockhart Cast-off Resin Statue. Limited to 100 pieces, mail-order exclusive!
Tifa: *carries Cloud's bike and rams it on his face* PERVERT!
Limited + Exclusive:
The sweet little devils in the figure collecting scene are such Limited Editions that are already limited in production quantity and are also darned exclusives. Usually they are advertised with gimmicks such as "Limited to the first 1000 that pre-ordered this blah blah" or more commonly "Only 3000 pieces available! Order now through --insert magazine--!"
Notable example:
Sora Valor Form <-- My most hated Play Arts Action Figure along with Cloud and Fenrir from Advent Pieces. Limited to 3000 pieces, Kotobukiya Mail Order exclusive. Though some stores did carried him for a reasonable price, late comers would not be forgiven as E-bay made it seemed.
There, that ends my commentary on the good Play Arts reason and Tsuki-board's update.
If you did felt offended with me pecking (like a Toucan or pterodactly) on your favorite toy company (hey, I worship Square-Enix but I called them devils LOL); then allow me to apologize as you throw your "pitchforks"at me.

Play Arts Action Figure Overview and List
Overview
Currently, there are 65 known Play Arts action figures in existence. The now bestselling and fan favorite Play Arts Action Figure line has been around since the second quarter of 2003, debuting with the Yu-Ri-Pa girls from Final Fantasy X-2.
It is important to keep in mind that all Play Arts figures are non-scale but the scales (1/8, 1/7) that you were accustomed to can be loosely used to describe its size. The apparent scale of each series in comparison could be seen as:
Fullmetal Alchemist = Dragon Quest VIII < Kingdom Hearts < Final Fantasy X-2 = Kingdom Hearts II < Final Fantasy VII Advent Children < Final Fantasy VII = Final Fantasy VIII = Final Fantasy X < Final Fantasy XII.
As you can see, Final Fantasy XII are of the largest apparent scale which is approximately 1/7th. Also, not all Play Arts figures have the same amount of articulation. For articulations, please refer to this chart.
Now for the list.
Before I proceed with the list, here's another useful link for you. Tsuki-board is currently holding information for all 65 Play Arts here. Visit this page if you are in need of pictures, more info or evidences of their existence.

But for now, maybe I should be a bit more keen on Play Arts reviews as well as to complete the missing Play Arts info in Tsuki-board. What better way to spend the month of May knowing that my parents won't take me out on a vacation. Sheesh, as always.
Later taters. :D

Tieria Erde Statues and Kamiyan Love
I've recently established a Club dedicated to Kamiya Hiroshi (Kamiyan) whose best known for the voice role of Tieria Erde (Gundam 00), Nozomu Itoshiki (SZS) and Michael Blanc (Macross Frontier).
...speaking of Tieria, I happened to stumble across this site which had taken pics from the Tamashii Nations event. But what really caught my eye are two deliciously-detailed Tieria Erde statues featuring him dressing up in his pilot outfit and the other in his curvaceous form as seen in Episode 8 of Season 2.
Is it too much to ask for an "Undressing" variant? :P~~~~~
Sexy, naughty bitchy trap. Definitely someone that no human could resist.
I really hope these two are for sale as I'm gonna be buying them.
Also, hopefully not Limited Editions as I'll be driven in despair.
The section they are placed in are so-called "Memento" as written in Katakana. However, these two appear to be made of PVC and not some other material. I'm really really hoping that they are for sale as that new Evangelion girl Mari Illustrous Makinami is for sale. She's also displayed in that event btw.
So with desperation, I posted these in Otakai if anyone would have more info about these.
Yeah, seriously. If those Gundam girls can have their statues, why not Tieria? Japan, don't be biased. We fans are here not only for the girls but for the hot hot boys.
Take it; Edgie, Kamina and Billy! :D

KH Play Arts vol. 2 Available
Check them out at the SouthEast Asia-friendlier site of Hobby Link Japan:
(as well as Square-Enix's knack for recycling box art)
Halloween Town Sora
Cloud Strife
Sephiroth
Do take note that these are smaller than what they seem. While Sora is at the same size as the one in volume 1, Cloud (and Sephiroth) would be a bit more compromising.
As for me, I'll sit back and wait for my pre-orders to arrive.
After obtaining the Star Ocean IV Play Arts, I plan to take a long break from the Play Arts line and resume once the Final Fantasy IX ones are released. I would then spend that break time to complete my Yamato VMF collection with Mou-chan (original color, god...I hate the pink one!) and an extra Motoko for coatless display. Also, I really hope my Reina finally arrives. Yamato has the fault as I can see it. They've been paying less attention with their VMF line, I've noticed. Hopefully they won't get so serious after Reina is released until next year. VMF's definitely more damn expensive than Play Arts, double the price baby! 0_0;
Anyways...
Here's another pic of the Final Fantasy IX Play Arts set:
Garnet is so epic fail. Poor in-game likeness unlike Zidane and Vivi (of course!!!). It's not good that she doesn't come with an extra head with closed eyes just so that we can create the 3D CG image of her.
Pre-orders open at Big Bad Toy Store! According to them, slated for September 2009 release.
So why in the world does two members of Tsuki-board have them already? Bwahahaha, a clear case of typo as it seems? The option for "Ordered" is right next to "Owned" but it's really not hardly noticeable. Perhaps they mistook these for the Bandai Extra Knights which is a lot primitive, less articulation and lower quality...but higher price now.
Ah, such cases makes me either want to throw a pair of Mage Mashers at the computer screen or to less-violently suggest to Tsuki-board that the choice "Owned" would not yet be available until the release date of the figure is met.
Sorry for being such a Play Arts-strict minded. It's the lifeblood of my Otaku career and the only thing that makes my boring college life anyhow interesting.
AND speaking of Final Fantasy IX...moreover Dissidia
Kuja rocks! It's a shame that not too many people in our country appreciate Kuja. Because they always equate the beautiful bastard with Bebe Gandanghari aka: Country's number one DRAG QUEEN. Tsk...tsk...but everyone that played Final Fantasy IX do know that Kuja's beauty is natural.
The English dub better give him a decent voice actor or else!
I personally want Liam O'Brien (Lezard Valeth, Ky Kiske) or Oliver Quinn (Genesis Rhapsodos) for Kuja.

Could the third season open possibility for Nozomu Figma?
With the third season for the beyond epic Sayonara Zetsubo-Sensei series green lit; will it increase the chance for our favorite teacher to have his own Figma incarnation?
We'll see about that! XD
But seriously, I want a Nozomu Figma!!!
Oh god, please...Max Factory, hear my pleas or I'll be in despair!!! XDDD
...and god. My photoshop editing skills are...getting worse! 0_0;
